This is the 2nd layout from our CTMH Seasonal Launch
event, using the Sweet Girl Collection.
I had never tried the herringbone technique before and I have to say not
only was it easier than expected, but creates a fun look on your projects. Think of all the woodgrain papers in your stash...pull them out and give this a try!
The leaf border on the Sweet Girl woodgrain papers were cut off to
create a 9 1/2” square, which was then cut into 4 3/4” halves, then into (24) 4
3/4” x 3/4” with the woodgrain running horizontally.
To start, you’ll draw a line lightly across the first
base page 5 3/4” from the bottom. NEXT make a light mark along the left edge at 4 1/2” up from the bottom left
corner. Then a second light mark along
the top 7 1/2” to the right of the top left corner. Draw a diagonal line between these two
marks.
Draw a line lightly across the 2nd base page 5 3/4” from
the bottom. I used washi tape to connect
the two 12x12 base pages together so I could just continue the herringbone
pattern across the page.
You’ll attach the first woodgrain piece below the
diagonal line and horizontal guidelines (this first piece is the most
important, as all other pieces are going to follow this first piece).
Attach the 2nd piece with the right corner lining up
exactly along the horizontal guideline (note this piece will extend below the
horizontal guideline).
Once completed, I used my paper trimmer to cut/separate
the two pages. The excess from the
2nd/right base page was cut off then adhered to the left of the first page
filling in the gap from starting the herringbone pattern.
